RE: Pick up the new 5er tomorrow...getting nervous

To answer your question, I put the truck in drive, stepped on the gas and away we went with no problems except a nervous stomach. Only challenges were the off tracking being greater than tt.

RE: Travel to Canada

I assume you have a work permit for Canada?
A passport is not needed for land travel at this time.

RE: Dump Station Rules?

Were you looking at your watch, tapping your toe, or giving him the impression you were in a hurry? Did you move up to the 4 feet after waiting for 15 minutes? Were you standing next to his "dump?" Were you gunning your engine?
If not, as has been mentioned just chock it up to a guy who was unhappy about his own life and felt the need to try and pass his irritation on to someone else. Unfortunately life is full of unhappy people, even campers. Who knows, maybe he ate too many prunes for breakfast.

RE: Tying down awning

It sounds to me like your tie down method would be something I would run into, again...
I would have to agree with others about the need to roll up without delays.
However on our new Montana it was the electric awning so it only takes about 20 seconds to roll up or down with the press of a button, without even stepping outside.

RE: Any one using a Ford V10 for TV?

My 04 v-10 works with no problems. 8 mpg towing, 14 empty. Combined total weight of 19,900#. We had a great Dodge diesel, but are in love with the v-10 with 3.73. If I had any more torque or power or whatever a diesel is supposed to offer I don't know what I would use it for. I get up and go the speed limit, pass other rigs going up hill and some pass me. If the trip itself cannot be enjoyed it seems like we should stay home. My .02 worth.

RE: Crossroads cruiser

I had no problem with the cruiser other than the what I saw. Just as I said, what I saw in the units I looked at was very rough cut, through knots and all the top edges of the drawers were like barn boards in my opinion. I really wanted the Kingston, but it too was not finished as I thought was proper. The Montana, like most everything we purchase was just what we had been looking for for over two years. We looked from Portland Oregon to Chilliwack, BC. We checked prices on line and over the phone all over the west coast and even mid-west. When we narrowed it down to the 3000RK we found the best price at Tacoma RV but they did not have any of the early 08 ones. The next best price we found was at CW in Burlington, near the Cruiser dealer. What ever one buys if it is what they are happy with, it is the right unit for them.

RE: Tire wear

If you ever go through Chehalis, WA stop at Lees Line up. They do a great professional job on alignments. Lee has been there over 20 years. I took my 28' 5ver in as it was wearing the outside edge of both right tires. After checking them out with the laser device he was able to bend both axles and get them in the correct alignment. It cost something like $60 per axle if I remember right.

RE: So this is why diesel costs more!

Here is what I heard was the problem.
NO ONE WAS CHECKING THE OIL!
There is oil all over the US, California, Wyoming, East coast and west coast.
The real problem is that the dipsticks are in Washington DC

RE: Crossroads cruiser

Montana just hides the same materials better, and I bet you paid quit a bit more for that extra wood tape! The most important detail is that you buy a unit that works for how you will use it and falls in your price range....
Actually we did not pay very much more at all, we got a good deal on the Montana. It does have quite a few amenities we are very happy with.

RE: Crossroads cruiser

We were ready to purchase the Kingston or a cruiser. In doing a closer inspection, when I noticed the top sides of the drawers were raw, rough cut plywood and not even sanded at all. I thought to myself, if this is how they finish what we do see, what are the areas like that you don't see? We decided to go with the Montana instead, and are satisfied with our decision. Some input from this forum discussed the warranty on the cruiser roof and they sounded like it wasn't as good as advertised. You need to check it all out and if you are happy that is what counts. And after you buy (whatever) stop shopping... you will always find something different that could cause buyers remorse.
Take good care of what you buy and it should last you a long time.

RE: Travelling with Propane on

I was rereading the requirements for a "heavy" trailer endorsement here in BC and it clearly states that during your pretrip inspection ensure that "the propane tanks are turned off" while traveling. Than the next paragraph states "check that propane appliances and pilot lights are turned off." (Chapter 3 page 19)
If this is a required pretrip inspection to obtain the "heavy" endorsement I would suppose it is required for a trip without the inspector around?
The heavy endorsement is for anyone towing a trailer over 4600 kg (10,141 lbs.)
Interesting, eh?
But what we do when the "law" isn't around may be different.

RE: Web sites for food stuffs at border crossing

We have lost dry dog food in ziplock bags. Even if made in USA. Must be original package, with marking made in USA. This is not always the case but if inspected they will take it. We cross 2-3 times a week and one thing we have found to be consistant in their inconsistancy. As visitor we have been allowed to bring items into canada duty without paying customs. This was the norm for a couple of months. Now they have changed and we pay the fees.
But to answer your question...

RE: Jayco/Care free power awning

I had a real damping experience with our new Montana and the automatic awning. I was concerned about some water collecting on it, so as I stood there with the door open watching this really cool awning retract thinking how proud I was of the auto push button..... down came the water, free shower.
Conclusion of the whole matter: If it maybe wet, close the door and watch through a window.
Of if unwanted guests arrive...

RE: Rude people in lower mainland B.C. - Is it always like that?

Well....I live in Langley, I'm a visitor from the states...Yes there is rudeness, but I do see it more than just the lowermainland. As sue.t mentioned "they" need to go camping. However, unless "they" changed their demeanor I hope they camp next to you and not me. It is a sad thing that so many people act in such rude and uncaring ways. I hope it is not a thing that indicates what our future generation will be when they grow up. I have thought many times they need a real life changing experience. I really hope your bad experiences are all over and it is possible you could came back and enjoy Langley, Ft Langley and Murrayville someday.
DW and I made a trip to Ft MacMuray a few months ago and had a wonderful time and don't recall running into any of those rude drivers along the way. Just those huge huge oversized loads from Edmonton to Ft McMurray.
Happy and traveling.
